SHSCEvents as part of the Scottish Health Service Centre has been awarded the Green Business Tourism (GBTS) Silver Award and the Keep Edinburgh Clean Gold Award.
In addition to these awards, one of our major business objectives for 2009/2010 is to attain the British Standard for Sustainable Event Management – BS8901. This standard focuses on the management of environmental, financial and social risks and impacts, spanning all aspects of event management. SHSCEvents has already begun to incorporate many areas of this within its own working practice. Some of the initiatives we undertake on a regular basis include:
- Use of sustainable conference products such as jute or paper conference bags
- Paper minimisation – e.g. we try and minimise the number of speakers papers in conference packs by publishing these on our website
- Recycled paper for print collateral
- Promotion of public transport and car sharing
