event overview

Every day there are millions of conversations in health care settings which shape our experience of health.  But how much is understood?

This is an important opportunity to learn from practitioners in literacy, numeracy and health and to hear about work in progress to improve our understanding of health literacy.  Come along to eavesdrop on a health consultation and contribute your ideas for how this conversation could be improved.  Learn more about:

  • National Health Literacy Scoping Study
  • A range of national and local initiatives
  • Access to Local Information to Support Self Management’s Health Literacy Report
  • NHS Workforce developments
  • NHS Inform – NHS Scotland’s new national patient information service

sustainable event management

SHSCEvents as part of the Scottish Health Service Centre has been awarded the Green Business Tourism (GBTS) Silver Award and the Keep Edinburgh Clean Gold Award

In addition to these awards, one of our major business objectives for 2009/2010 is to attain the British Standard for Sustainable Event Management – BS8901. This standard focuses on the management of environmental, financial and social risks and impacts, spanning all aspects of event management. SHSCEvents has already begun to incorporate many areas of this within its own working practice.  Some of the initiatives we undertake on a regular basis include:

Use of sustainable conference products such as jute or paper conference bags

Badge Recycling

Paper minimisation – e.g. we try and minimise the number of speakers papers in conference packs by publishing these on our website

Recycled paper for print collateral

Promotion of public transport and car sharing

cancellation policy

Confirmation details will be issued 7-10 days before the event. SHSCEvents cannot be held responsible for non-arrival of registration information. If you have not heard from us 7 days prior to the conference, please contact us on 0131 275 7751. Many of the events that SHSCEvents provide are oversubscribed and we actively manage waiting lists to ensure that we use all the capacity that we have available. We understand that due to the nature of health service work things can happen unexpectedly, so we ask that staff cancel in time for us to reallocate places to people on the waiting list. SHSCEvents are now placing a 48 hour cancellation rule on all of their training and development events.
